A direct-admit PhD program is offered in French. Ohio State graduate students enjoy collegial faculty who work closely with students throughout the PhD programs. Students benefit from faculty research in literature, cultural studies, film, linguistics and second language acquisition. Several challenging and varied graduate seminars are offered throughout the academic year.
Central to any research is a well-stocked library. Not only does the Ohio State University enjoy an in-depth collection on its grounds, but additional connections via OhioLink and an on-line world-wide catalog facilitate research on any number of topics.
The Department of French provides students admitted to its graduate programs with financial support in the form of a Graduate Teaching Associateship, a Graduate Research Associateship or a University Fellowship, all of which include a full tuition and fee waiver and a monthly stipend. Graduate Teaching Associates teach one introductory-level language course per semester and benefit from an extensive training and mentoring system. Experienced GTAs may choose to work in the Individualized Instruction program as GTA supervisors.
