The MA program in Art Education gives students the opportunity to gain the knowledge and skills necessary to be well-informed and reflective practitioners, teachers and researchers.

The Online Master of Arts in Art Education at Ohio State is the first and premier online art education offering in the United States.

The Online MA in Art Education program engages arts educators working in K-12 schools, museums, and community settings who want to transform their understanding of contemporary approaches to teaching and art-making. In an interactive online community of your fellow arts educators and a world-class faculty, you will develop approaches based in current art education research to cultivate your own artmaking practice and invigorate your teaching.

With the flexibility of an online learning environment, you can personalize your education to fit your interests and goals while balancing the demands of your professional and personal responsibilities with your Master’s coursework.

The Online Master of Arts in Art Education program is a 30-hour comprehensive program that is completed in two years. The curriculum focuses on meaning-making, critical thinking and reflective practice.

  • Beginning the first summer, students take one 3-credit hour class and one 1-credit hour non-thesis hours each semester.
  • The second summer, students choose two 3-credit hour elective courses and/or study abroad in order to tailor their studies to their interests and take advantage of faculty expertise.
  • By the end of the program, students will have created a reflective portfolio on their teaching practice.

You will work with our outstanding online faculty, who are ranked highest nationally by NICHE. After two years in Ohio State’s Online Master of Arts in Art Education program, you will be a different art educator, affecting your students, making teaching fun again and advancing your career in new directions. This program does not lead to a teaching license.
