Application fee waivers

Ohio State works with a variety of programs that provide fee waivers to applicants, and also manages several of its own programs.

To request a waiver:

  1. Check the box in the Application Fee Waiver section of your admissions application indicating the program for which you qualify.
  2. Complete and submit the admission application. Because you checked a box in the Application Fee Waiver section, you will not be asked to pay the application fee.
  3. Take the required actions as outlined in your program's description below.
    Alumni online program applicants
    Big Ten Academic Alliance
Current or former Ohio State undergraduate students
    Economic Disadvantage Fee Waiver
    Grad Prof Student Recruitment
    Graduate Engineering Open House
    McNair Scholars Program
    PDG Program
    Summer Research Opportunity
  4. Processing times vary. For most programs, you will receive an email response regarding the outcome of your request within three to five business days. If your waiver request is denied, you will be asked to return to your admission application and pay the application fee.

Read these important notes:

  • It is important that you take the required actions for your fee waiver request well in advance of your program's application deadline to allow for processing. If there are fewer than 10 business days left before the deadline, we recommend you do not request a fee waiver. Here's why: If your waiver is denied and your program's deadline has passed, the application will be closed and you will not be able to apply for admission.
  • We will not begin reviewing your admission application until your waiver is approved or, if not approved, until the application fee is paid.
  • All waiver requests will be verified. Depending upon the program, this verification may be handled by Graduate and Professional Admissions, the Graduate School, or the academic program to which you are applying.
  • Only one fee waiver is permitted per academic year.
  • The application fee is NONREFUNDABLE. If you pay the application fee, we can no longer honor your fee waiver request.
