Social Work Doctor of Philosophy

About us

Established in 1927, the PhD program in the College of Social Work at Ohio State has a long history of graduates contributing to social change through research as faculty in universities across the United States and around the world.

A doctoral student in Social Work will gain the foundations and expertise necessary for change oriented research and scholarship. Through the mentoring of a faculty advisor and committee, students engage in translational science research and scholarship – moving primary research results into application and dissemination to the social work practice community. The curriculum, candidacy exam, and dissertation are all designed to contribute to this goal.

Please note

Ohio State academic programs are designed to prepare students to sit for applicable licensure or certification in Ohio. If you plan to pursue licensure or certification in a state other than Ohio, please review state educational requirements for licensure, certification and state licensing board contact information at the State Authorization website for online programs and for on-campus programs
