The field of health information management represents the body of knowledge and practice that assures the availability of healthcare information to facilitate real-time healthcare delivery and critical health related decision-making for multiple purposes across diverse organizations, settings and disciplines. It is concerned with the management of resources to collect, store, retrieve, interpret and communicate healthcare information that deals with patient care, medico-legal issues, research, and the planning, provision and evaluation of health care services.

Health Information Management and Systems (HIMS) is a great undergraduate program for students interested in pursuing health information management right after graduation or for those students interested in pursuing graduate degrees in physical therapy (DPT), occupational therapy (OTD), hospital administration, medicine, physician assistant, health informatics, business, law or public health.
