Our mission is to provide exceptional professional preparation for students who wish to become certified athletic trainers and to further the athletic training profession through scholarship and service.
We offer a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training degree (BSAT) that leads to eligibility for national certification (the ATC® credential) and state licensure to practice athletic training. To meet changing accreditation requirements, we plan to offer a professional level Master of Athletic Training degree beginning summer 2021. As a result, we anticipate that our final BSAT cohort will be for the January 2020 admissions cycle and will begin the professional phase of the program in fall 2020 (i.e. Fall 2019 freshmen and transfer students who will have complete all pre-requisites by the end of Spring Semester 2020).
As part of the School of Health and Rehabilitation Sciences, we offer a PhD program in Health and Rehabilitation Sciences that can help Certified Athletic Trainers become researchers and faculty members.
With over 50 certified athletic trainers teaching and mentoring our students, our athletic training faculty is among the largest in the nation. Students also interact with over 40 team physicians, dentists, pharmacists, sport psychologists, and other specialists that are part of the Ohio State University Sports Medicine Team.
Although we are one of the nations largest universities, our athletic training program has a very personal feel. This is a place where your instructors know you by name and are invested in your personal and professional success.
Students complete clinical rotations with carefully selected preceptors both on-campus in our six Athletic Training Facilities with OSU's 1000+ student athletes as well as off-campus with high schools, small colleges, outpatient clinics, physician's clinics, and professional sports teams. The exceptional quality and diversity of our clinical education opportunities are a point of pride for our program.
